Visionary Voices: Echoes of Inner Worlds

Visionary Voices: Echoes of Inner Worlds will open its doors to the public on June 5, 2026, at 4:00 PM at the Leonora Carrington Museum in Xilitla. Only 20 artists will be selected to exhibit in one of Mexico’s most important spaces for Surrealist Art.

Beyond gathering incredible artists, this exhibition seeks to create a space where shared practices and distinct voices converge, offering an immersive journey into the enchanted realm of Xilitla, a place where visionaries such as Edward James and Leonora Carrington once shaped the dreams that defined their art.

Cradled in the lush embrace of the Huasteca jungle, Xilitla stands as a living symbol of Mexican surrealism, a land where imagination and nature intertwine, transforming those who dare to wander through its mystical paths.

Alongside the exhibition, participating artists will be invited to take part in a special journey designed to awaken inspiration and connection, following a two-day itinerary that celebrates creativity, exploration, and the enduring spirit of art within this extraordinary landscape.

Traveling Internationally to Xilitla

If you’re coming from an international point or within Mexico, there are a few ways to reach Xilitla, but what we recommend is flying into Querétaro (QRO). It’s one of the easiest and most practical routes, and from there, you can hop on a bus, grab a shuttle, rent a car, or travel together on a private group bus to arrive in Xilitla.

Fly to Querétaro (QRO), then bus, shuttle, car, or private group bus to Xilitla (easiest route overall).

  • Fly from your nearest international airport or Mexican city to Querétaro (QRO).

  • Querétaro offers excellent national and international connections and is one of the most comfortable entry points for reaching Xilitla.

  • From the airport, take a taxi or shuttle to the main bus terminal, or rent a car if you prefer to drive.

  • Take a bus toward Ciudad Valles or drive directly to Xilitla.

  • From Ciudad Valles, it’s approximately 1–1.5 hours by car to Xilitla (around 50–53 miles).

  • Grupo Vencedor and other regional bus lines serve the Ciudad Valles ⇄ Xilitla route.

Private group bus option: If 20 or more people agree to travel this way, a private bus can be rented from Querétaro to Xilitla, and the total cost will be divided among all participants who choose this option.

Q&A

Why is there a $35 application fee?

It helps cover organization and review costs. Selected artists then pay $300, which supports event logistics, the exhibition setup, and post-event activities, keeping the program affordable compared to similar art events.

Can I share transportation or lodging?

Yes! Once the 20 selected artists are announced, we’ll help coordinate shared rooms and/or bus rentals so participants can travel and stay together in Xilitla.

Do I need to ship my artwork?

It depends. If you arrive in Xilitla at least 3–4 business days before the exhibition, you can bring your work with you. Otherwise, you’ll need to ship it in advance. Artists cover shipping, packaging, and optional insurance (recommended for original artwork). We’ll provide full guidance to ensure safe delivery.

Can I exhibit a high-quality reproduction instead of original artwork?

Yes! High-quality reproductions are welcome if they’re in the appropriate format, for example, works on paper like watercolors should be printed on paper, and paintings should be presented as printed canvas. All reproductions must be high quality.

Can I travel with a friend, family member, or partner?
Yes, absolutely! Your companion is welcome to join. There’s a $50 additional fee per non-participating guest to help cover logistics and admin costs.

How much can I expect this experience to cost?
Considering transportation from Querétaro to Xilitla, meals, museum tickets, group activities, and lodging, the total cost is estimated to be around $500 USD.

Note: Meals, lodging, hospitality, transportation, parking services, shipping costs, insurance, and museum tickets are not included. If you have any logistical questions, feel free to reach out, I’ll be happy to assist.
